PSA: Ditch your deodorant!

… and buy yourself a stick of Schmidt’s immediately.

I’ll reluctantly admit that I was the last to the party when it came to all natural deodorant. I read all the warnings, skimmed the health issues associated with aluminum, but I just didn’t care. I hated the feeling of any kind of moisture under my arms and would carry Degree with me at all times. Deodorant was literally the last product I was willing to go all natural with. I swapped out my Clinique for coconut oil, my toner for witch hazel, and my lotions and hair products to all things vegan and natural. I just couldn’t find it in me to switch my deodorant. It wasn’t until last August that I picked up a travel size, delicious smelling, all natural deodorant while waiting in line at Sephora. It was $8 for this tiny little thing, but it worked! I still sweat, which, is something we’re supposed to do to detox, but I didn’t stink. Here’s the CRAZIEST thing that happened… I stopped clogging my pores, stopped causing my lymph nodes to swell, stopped messing with my endocrine system and screwing with my hormones. I found myself far more balanced than I’ve ever been. My chest didn’t painfully swell during my cycle anymore. I had no idea that the pain I experienced every month was caused by the little roll on stick I used every day, I just assumed that was part of the womanly process. I stumbled upon this list of chemicals found in deodorant via, that explained everything that had been effecting me without even realizing.

  • Aluminum– some evidence links aluminum to estrogen dominance, cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Phthalates– These are endocrine disruptors that can cause hormone imbalance and even infertility. Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that at certain doses, can interfere with your hormone system
  • Propylene glycol– you might know this as antifreeze. This is an additive found in many personal care products that carries a risk of immunotoxicity (dysfunction of the immune system) and allergies.
  • Formaldehyde- a carcinogen (causes cancer)
  • Parabens- Another hormone disruptor. Parabens have been found in tissue that has been biopsied from breast cancer. Scary man.
  • Antibacterial Substances- More endocrine disruptors and more fuckery of the immune system

Signed, sealed, delivered, I’m sold on never using anything but ALL FUCKING NATURAL deodorant again. Unfortunately $8 for a travel size was totally unreasonable and I just couldn’t justify continuing to spend that on something so small, no matter how great it was. Thus began my quest for the best all natural deodorant. I read so many blogger reviews, tried a few brands including Toms and Nature’s Gate, and then I found Schmidt’s.

Not only did Schmidt’s change the game for me, but for my husband as well. If I can make him a believer, I am fairly certain I could make anyone. For some reason he seems to make people trust my claims a bit more. If even Jayse is on board with my health trend du jour, then you know it must be good. Perhaps it’s because he’s such a logical being, and is ALWAYS skeptical of every “healthy” food or habit I adopt. However, when it comes to all deodorant he had been adamant about only using antiperspirants and NOT deodorant. He finally dropped his Speed Stick a few months after I found my beloved Schmidt’s.

He claims this is “THE BEST” natural deodorant he’s ever used. He’s totally right. It’s been the longest lasting, best smelling, all natural deodorant we’ve found yet. I’m happy it doesn’t last all day, but keeps me covered for I’d say around 6 hours, and the best part is I still sweat, so I know it isn’t clogging my pores or causing lymph swelling. While I hate the feeling of moisture under my arms, I enjoy being balanced and cancer free WAY more.

Have you tried Schmidt’s? What do you think? Anyone have a favorite scent?
